5.0 out of 5 stars Great for an electric chain saw, October 1, 2003
This review is from: Remington RM1635W 16-Inch 12-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio)
I just used this little chain saw to take down a large tree (well, large in my book ...). These chain saws are always 'advertised' and 'meant' to be used only for small trees (maybe 3"-4"), and trimming and pruning. I had a tree with about a 12" diameter trunk that I had to take down after the recent hurricane. I bought this puppy, and the tree was horizontal on the ground within about a half hour. Another 2 hours or so of cutting it into bite-sized pieces and chucking them into the woods, and I was done.
This chain saw went way beyond my expectations. I always figured that an electric chain saw would bog down at the first opportunity. It didn't even come close. I was careful to take smaller chunks out, wedges, to make a large kerf, than maybe I woul dhave if I had had a large gas-powered chain saw. But this wasn't always possible, and it did fine anyway. Also, I did use it to cut directly through all of the main branches, many of which were 6" or... Read more

I bought this tool 2-3 years ago, unsure of whether I really needed a chainsaw long term. As I have trees on my lot and feed a woodstove, I have found the tool indespensible. However, I am not at all happy with Remington's version of a chainsaw. The positive, and the negative, is simply: this tool is cheap. I liked the fact that it is quiet and emits no pollution at the point of use. The power was always acceptable. The problem comes at the point when you (inevitably) need to adjust the tension in the chain. The tensioner is worthy of a matchbox car, not a power tool. The adjuster travels a plastic track, based on your turning of a thumbscrew. The mechanism bent at first stress, and works no more. Too bad, as the motor and chain are still as good as ever. As they say, the bitterness of low quality lasts longer than the sweetness of a low price. This function could have been more robust. The tool is worth less without it. Spend the extra money to get a real tool.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, April 21, 2007
This review is from: Remington RM1635W 16-Inch 12-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio)
Bought the Remington Model 107625 about 6 months ago after a long term electric saw quit (at least ten years old and heavily used). Used this saw once for trimming up some small branches. Used it on a larger piece, making sure it was full of oil (the oil will leak out when it's being stored), and shutting it off every few minutes to keep the electric motor cool. Had to adjust the blade twice. After setting it aside for about fifteen minutes, I found it wouldn't turn on. No problem with electric service, it's the chainsaw. Having it repaired (if parts are even available) would cost more than the price of the chainsaw. It's Junk.
